HAVING A RUFF DAY? BRINGING YOUR PET TO WORK COULD BE PAWS FOR THOUGHT

As the nation prepares to take part in #BringYourDogToWorkDay this Friday, here at Clare PR we reflect on the huge rewards that can be reaped from the presence of pets in the workplace.

Our furry friends have a lot to answer for. After a hard day at the office, a warm greeting from our dearest canine companion or moggy can soon make all our worries disappear. For years, the soothing properties of animals have been linked to medical rehabilitation and have been supported by many organisations, Blind Veterans UK to name one.

Scientific research into the therapeutic benefits of animals has also focused on the impact of pets in the workplace and has concluded that the presence of pets can substantially reduce a person’s stress levels. Improved morale, higher staff retention and greater interaction amongst employees are also thought to be positive outcomes.

For five years now, the charity #HOWND has celebrated #BringYourDogToWorkDay https://www.bringyourdogtoworkday.co.uk/ and has received substantial media support. However, the concept has been around for quite some time.

According to research by reed.co.uk, about 8% of employees in the UK are allowed to take their dogs to work, and it’s needless to say, the pet sector is one of the biggest advocates of canine colleagues. For example, Mars Petcare has been allowing its employees to bring their four-legged friends into work since 2008, whilst pet charity Blue Cross (founded in 1987) has always allowed pets in the office.

Here at Clare PR, we have to say that we are huge supporters of this growing trend. I am fortunate to have Clare Communications based here right on my doorstep and so I have always been able to open my office to my dogs. I can see why some workplaces can’t condone the idea, but I can testify the benefits are endless. With the constant pressures of deadlines and client expectations, Maisey is always on hand to ensure I keep a cool head and as you can see, she is well and truly a member of the team.
